With the help of 3D and 4D ultrasound, the sonographer can gather valuable information about the progress of your pregnancy, possibly the gender if you would like, and beautiful images. The session lasts up to 1 hour, and the memories last a lifetime!
At Weston Diagnostics, our top priority is the safety of our moms and their new babies. You must be receiving prenatal care from a physician and we will require a copy of your second trimester ultrasound report prior to performing your 3D & 4D ultrasound.
In order to capture the best possible images, we recommend that you wait until the 25th week of your pregrancy before scheduling your appointment. For the best images, we also recommend having your 3D & 4D Ultrasound prior to your 33rd week of pregnancy.
Sometimes called a sonogram, an ultrasound uses sound waves to create a visual image of your baby. Unlike traditional 2D ultrasounds that you might get from your physician, 3D ultrasound uses sound waves emitted from multiple angles which are then rendered to create an accurate 3D picture of your baby.
This same process is used to create live 4D ultrasounds, just adding movement to the static 3D images. With 4D ultrasound, you can now see a real time video of your babys shape, position, movements, and facial expressions instantly!
A 4D ultrasound uses a special sonogram machine and takes images from a few different angles, which reveal more detailed images of the fetus, such as facial features. It can also capture movements made by the baby during the procedure.
Occasionally, a two-dimensional ultrasound may indicate a problem and a more sophisticated 4D ultrasound is needed to confirm an abnormality. For many pregnant women, there is no medical need for a 4D ultrasound, however the mom-to-be wants to get a better look at her baby. Most centers that perform a 4D ultrasound, recommend the test is performed after twenty-five weeks gestation. The baby is usually big enough to see features clearly.
